Are hair cuts and knowledge-seeking related in any way – Honorable Samuel Zigah questions
Samuel Zigah, an educationalist, concerns the Ghana Education Service’s implementation of a new rule governing hair trim choice in Senior High Schools (S.H.S.). in a Boss News interview. He stated that the codes of behavior and discipline for the Ghana Education Service are not new; rather, the pupils’ chosen haircut style is something new. Regarding the haircut they are mentioning, will they identify a specific barber who will be performing the work? He queries.
He continued, saying, “The teacher used to buy a blade during our study period in order to cut off our hair so that air could pass through. This means that anyone who trims their hair in that way ought to be expelled from the school.”Assuming that to be the case, what about those who engage in rastering—are they prohibited from entering school property by force? A haircut has no bearing on knowledge; it is analogous to a damaged uniform that has no bearing on knowledge.”
“Those who obligated themselves to this legislation are the education service. Are they not the same folks who argued that becoming pregnant as a teenager shouldn’t prevent you from pursuing your education? Are they not teaching the pupils intimidation techniques? He queries once more.
He reiterated that “the students used to fear their teachers than their parents, so the moment your mother tells you she will report you to your tutor, you become terrified, because you already know lashes won’t skip you.”
Finally, he said, “Are these not the same people who said that teachers are not allowed to cannon a child in school? If so, who will oversee the discipline they are implementing, or is the minister stepping down to oversee, so that the teachers can be informed that the student disobeyed the law and has to be punished?” Shouldn’t the teachers reprimand them? Imagine that a tutor does not have the authority to discipline a student who leaves school late at night unless the headmaster receives written notification from the tutor specifying the amount of lashes the student would get.
